Make-A-Wish Foundation
of Illinois
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is the nation’s oldest and largest wish granting
organization. The Northern Illinois chapter was founded in 1985
and has granted the wishes of nearly 4,000 local children.
The Challenge
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with
life-threatening illnesses, and many of these kids go on to
lead long and happy lives, but the persistent misconception
that Make-A-Wish grants the last wishes of dying children
was keeping qualified families from applying for services.
The Solution
Ongoing public relations focused both on the life-affirming
role of a wish in recovery and stories about remarkable children
who had wishes a few years earlier. Enclosed clips regarding
a young cancer survivor who carried the Olympic Torch and
a reunion party for wish kids and their wish granters are
only a few of the remarkable heart-warming stories that reinforced
the organization’s true mission.
